A poem on corruption
By Abhiroop kaur mann
Corruption, the cancer of the land
A menace that grows, a cancerous strand
Ravaging the fields, tearing us apart
Destroying our morals, corrupting our heart
It starts with a bribe, a small token of gain
A favor for favor, a game we can’t sustain
Our values take a backseat, our morals rust away
Our conscience weakens, as we play day by day
Our leaders lead astray, ruling with an iron hand
Oppressing the weak, enriching the land
The poor cry out, their voice a mere whisper
As their sweat and tears just feed the glitter
Corruption eats away at the soul of a nation
Burning bridges, causing separation
It leaves us brutal, harsh and cold
The human spirit, left alone in the cold
The end result is chaos, the land in disarray
Injustice the only order, corruption the only way
Our love for the truth betrayed, the trust of others tarnished
Our very foundation weakened, our future now vanquished
Let’s stop this devil, let’s curb our greed
Let’s start telling the truth and planting the seed
Honesty and integrity should be our watchword
And in doing so, corruption we’ll be able to discard.
